Just wanted to start a new thread with a more specific title. The issues thread has the bulk of the info so far but a short synopsis follows:

Many GH2 owners are experiencing freeze-ups during gameplay.
Freeze-ups are accompanied by loud clicking noise from PS2.
When gameplay resumes, Guitar part of the music is out of synch.
Restarting the song may resynch the game but game may freeze on option screen.
Playing in training mode seems to work just fine for some.
Single GH2 Disc tested in no less than 2 different "fat" PS2's and 2 different "slim" PS2's with freeze-ups occuring on all systems.
When game screen freezes, can still see the fret buttons light up on screen when activated on controller.

If you are having similar problems, post your experience here. Hopefully RO will see this and let us know what is the problem.

I already sent RO an email to their Customer Support line. When I get a response (hopefully sometime later today), I will get right back to you.

Much appreciated. Thx! Some good posts on the issues thread. I pray that the problem is not the code that synchs the audio and video. A code problem would be catastrophic. Devs prolly won't recode to make us happy. We would have to buy a compatible PS2. UGH...I will wait for GH on 360 if that is the case. I am hoping maybe there is a problem with the physical media the game is pressed to and maybe there was a bad lot of games. Any other cause of the problem is bad news: Code is bad. Not compatible with ALL PS2's. Both of these would be terrible.

Exact same thing here. Search and Destroy as well as Tattooed Love Boys is where the game screws up for me. The audio won't even load on the song select screen, and the game freezes if I try to select either of them. Six is also messed up, loading the song but freezing at the first note and skipping through the rest of the song. Hopefully somebody will have an answer.

No...you need to be provided with a playable, fully compatible, fully QA'ed game for your hard earned money.

Not compatible with all PS2s: I think they should have some kind of a huge disclaimer pointing out the ones that are compatible on that huge rectangular box w/ the guitar or the separate game box itself. That would've helped us out a lot. They probably purposely didn't put a disclaimer so more people would buy it... and some will have the problem like we have here.

My train of thought is thinning out here... x_x;

Same problem here. The first set of songs are unplayable due to stutter and "Heart Shaped Box" stutters about halfway through. Tried the game in a SCPH-50001 (fat) and SCPH-70012 (slim) PS2. I'll try to get examples up on Google Video or YouTube if I have time. Bad pressing, perhaps?

I had one freeze up. I've been missing random notes I should be hitting too but I figure that's the guitar.

GH songlist thoughts...

GH 3 Good: 11 Ok: 10 Bad: 5
Songs I probably won't get to play cause someone came up with the stupid idea of having to unlock them through co-op with no other way to get them wich instantly makes Rock Band better: 1

GH 80's Good: 8 Ok: 11 Bad: 11
GH 2 Good: 30 Ok: 10 Bad: 24
GH 1 Good: 21 Ok: 16 Bad: 10

Rock Band Good: 11 Ok: 5 Bad: 0 Songs I won't get to play: 0

I sure hope it is simply a bad press.

Mine froze once after playing the 4th song in the first tier, but was fine after that......

Untill I hit "someone was in my room last night" and it froze 5 times on that one song, it never played the audio after the 2nd time, I tried cleaning it, didnt work. So I just returned it and got a new one. Also I was playin it on a old fat ps2 and it froze again like 5 songs later so i quit playin on that one. Went home played on the slim ps2 and it froze after 10 songs. Seriously some bad stuff happening with this gh2, my gh1 only froze like twice. Just take em back and get new ones folks, thats all you can do right now.

Hmmm... maybe later today I might even post a video as an example of what is going on with this game in my PS2.

Good idea. *Youtubes it later*

I'd really like to know how many people HAVEN'T had problems with the game. It seems like more and more people have had some minor issues, all the way up to complete inability to play the game. It's a shame that everybody who bought the game was really jazzed to get to play it and now most of us are out in the cold.

I agree that returning the game is the only option for now. A massive amount of returns of merchandise that cannot be readily resold may spur RO into action as well. I also suggest sending email to customer service/support at RO. They need to know there is problem and do or say SOMETHING now. I will be exchanging my game tomorrow, and if the problem persists, I will exchange the game every day until I get one that works. Like you said, that is all I can do right now.

I can say that I have the slimline PS2, purchased in December of 2005. It sits on the left surround sound speaker next to my television.

I barely play anything on the PS2 except Guitar Hero. I played a borrowed copy of God of War and a rented copy of Shadow of the Colossus. I finished all but the final three songs on Guitar Hero 1 on Expert.

Today, I played Expert only through to Tier 4 on Guitar Hero 2, passing "Girlfriend" before I stopped playing. I played non-stop for about 2 1/2 hours. No stutter, no clicking, nothing. The game ran perfectly.

Would you mind posting your location? Or where you purchased the game.

Thanks for the post, Max. Maybe we should start a thread dedicated to working vs. glitched copies of the game? I don't even know if that would help anything except make me feel better about having a screwed up disc. :)

Ok been having freeze problems like most on the boards today. But I tried something and it seems to be working so far. In the options try switching the video options back and forth between widescreen and regular viewing . I know it sounds stupid but its the only thing that seems to be working.
