I just recently went up to normal mode after clearing Easy, and I keep on coming back to the same thing, I cannot use my Pinky to hit the blue button. I can use it to hit the button, but it just doesn't feel comfortable. I either fail at hitting the button with my pinky, or I slide my ring finger from the yellow button to the blue button. Usually, in a series of alternating combo between the two I mess up and lower to yellow, but that changes after retrying the level over again. Am I alone, or does anyone else rarely use their pinky to play?
Number of people I've convinced to get the game: 4(possibly more) Number of times I've praised the games: I lost count a while back

My guess is you have never played a real guitar. It will take some getting used to but you will develop more with the pinky if not 3 fingers makes it hard to play the guitar. Just get some practice at it, it's weird now but you will get it.

Veras Gunn, I noticed that too. I never played real guitar, but it does get easier with practice. I was stuck on tier 2 of Medium for a couple of days because of that blue button. Just keep working at it, and just wait til you get up to Hard using the Orange button! You have to shift you rhand around a lot!

It gets easier with practice. Just wait till you use the 5th fret. Its hard at first but once you get used to moving around its fun as hell.

My pinky and my fighter stick would like a word with you.
But yeah, I know what you mean... it's not a finger that gets used a whole lot. It gets tired very easily =)

I use my pinky as often as possible. With 5 buttons, it would be so hard to alternate between all of the buttons utilizing nothing but 3 fingers. It's sort of a funny thing.... I actually play guitar and I started off playing simple bluesy riffs and power chords with 3 fingers, but I eventually found you have to learn to use all of your fingers, EVEN your thumb, to play certain songs.
If you really wanna play well, learn it with all four fingers. Take it from me, I've already beaten the game on expert. Even "Bark at the Moon"!?!?!

I can't use my pinky on this either. I'm on medium, and I've just been sliding my hand down to hit blue. I'm on Tier 6 in Medium, tried Bark at the Moon and it just whupped me hard. Most of the other songs before Tier 6 I got 3 stars on the first time through, getting lots of 5s on the second.

I play guitar (and btw love this game to death) and I find it no trouble to use my pinky. I'm actually REALLY liking the game on expert more then any mode now that I got there. I can pass most songs on Expert. Crossroads is giving me trouble of course but throwing chords in that opening riff is hard :) Funny when you can play the song in real life and not in the game!
Anyway the using 5 buttons all in the same riff makes me feel most like I'm really playing a guitar. I think it works great how Easy is only 3, Medium 4, Hard all 5 but not ussually in the same riff (till the hard songs) and then expert just lets you have it. I think they did a great job on it.
But to post more about the original topic, just practice. You'll need to use your pinky on Hard and Expert mode. I mean... I guess you can do without but a lot of needless hand movement :) Just like on a real guitar.

It was really tough for me at first, but you have to practice so your brain gets used to it. My main problem was that I would move all of my other fingers when my pinky hit the blue button, and so then it was tough form e to get my fingers back in position for the following notes. Now I don't have this problem.
I am having a super tough time with the orange notes though.

Just keep playing and everything slowly but surely gets easier. Songs you once thought were impossible one week become laughably easy the next. It's been said many times, but the learning curve is superb. As you keep playing, things like using your pinky, or sliding your hand up and down the fretboard become second nature.

Im pretty sure that they made the 5th fret/pinky stuff hard to make it a challenge and increase finger strength. Im a guitarist and have done many pinky excercises for finger strength.

I come from a Piano/keyboard background, and as such, I am quite used to using all my fingers. My wife, on the other hand, has no music playing background, and is having a hell of a time learning this game. She can barely pass easy songs.

I'm in the same boat, man!
that pinky business is hard at first, but now I'm hitting 75% of the time. (tried hard last night, though, and that 5th button totally kicked my ass!) :(
