I know that the GH3 controller will work with Rock Band, but will the Rock Band controller work with GH3? I know that the RB controller has 5 extra fret buttons at the bottom for solos but does anyone know if the 5 upper frets will work on GH3?

This is a damn good question, I was gonna ask this one myself. I hope there is some compatibility otherwise I'll be havin' a shelf full of guitar controllers lined up, which can be cool but could take up space in my small room. Anyone know if these guitar controllers will be compatible with either game?
It's gotta be rock 'n roll music if ya wanna dance with me!

I don't see why the RB controller shouldn't work with GH3. The extra five buttons are the same buttons, just different placement.
At least I think that's how it is.

Pretty much the only reason I pre-ordered GHIII was that it would keep me going for a couple of weeks until Rock Band came out and then I'd be able to use the Guitar Hero guitar as the Bass for Rock Band, if it doesn't work with Rock Band I'm going to cancel my order. It's crazy that I'll still have to play GH I and II on my PS2 aswell, that's just insane. Them's the breaks I get. Has there been anything official said about The GHIII being compatible with Rock Band? I know they're trying to protect their product and seem to have implied that they'll be making it incompatible with Rock Band, but if what I've heard people saying is anything to go by they'd actually be losing a hell of a lot sales rather than saving them.

Yeah it would benefit both of them but from the snippets I've been reading from interviews with the RedOctane people, it sounds like there's a strong possibilty the GHIII controller will not work with Rock Band. They seem to be pissed off with Harmonix making Rock Band and as they see it 'piggy-backing' on their product, possibly forgetting that Harmonix had a large part to play in making GHI and II so successful. I'm probably just going to cancel my order for GHIII and just order an extra strat controller for Rock Band. Way to protect your product RedOctane.

I don't know which is more pathetic: that you're willing to spend $100 dollars for a game you'd only play for a few weeks, or that you come to the Official Guitar Hero Forums to say how Rock Band is better. If you don't want GHIII, don't come here, it's that simple. I don't go to the RB forums and talk about how I'm not getting Rock Band.

'Pretty much' is the key phrase in my previous post. I'm sure I would play it but just not as often as Rock Band. I think I'm entitled to air my opinion of what I consider to be the mis-treating of fans of BOTH games if RedOctane go off and make the guitar incompatible with Rock Band and (speculation) in the process make the controller incompatible with GH1 and II. I've really enjoyed the GH games up until this point, and I'm sure I'd enjoy GH III.
And it's also interesting that you criticize me for buying a game that I'll only play for a few weeks (fair point, but until online play I think that's what everyone did) and then a couple of sentences later criticize me for coming on to the forums to say how I'm NOT buying a game. Make up your mind! And why would you give a crap what I spend my money on? People spend $100 in a night getting wasted so what's the crime in spending $100 on a game for a few weeks worth of entertianment? So Zing! I guess you got me there buddy.
I would have mentioned why I'm potentially not going to buy GH III on the Rock Band forums, but they're not making GH III and if I do cancel my pre-order because of this issue I'd like the developers of GH III to know, on the off chance they visit the Official Guitar Hero forum.

The RB controllers will work fine. Remember that these controllers are little more than gamepads shaped like guitars. So there's no reason one won't work with the other.

I know one thing and that is if you have a 360 the X-plorer will work with RB and GHIII,so i'm guessing that GHIII is compatible with RB.I'm hopping it is anyway.Read this it may or may not help. http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=5245

The RB people say they have: 'an open platform philosophy and their games will be compatible with third-party controllers that conform to the various platform controller standards'
Are there 'controller standards' for plastic guitars? Is GH3 also going to conform to whatever these standards are?
I can see that neither side will confirm that they will support the other's product but if they at least intend to conform to the same standards then there's a glimmer of hope it might work. Which might mean I don't end up with a total of 6 guitars in my living room...
